Swimming is more enjoyable..and faster :-)

I have not swum in the ocean since the Byron Bay Triathlon way back in May. I really have not enjoyed my swims using my current wetsuit so it was with great trepidation that I accepted an invitation to swim in an Erox Cell Air. My 2010/11 triathlon season training was about to start!!
First thing I noticed about the suit was its colour Bright Blue (makes a nice change and I can stand out in transition)
The Cell Air has a surface similar to fish scales and is covered by a nano coating which helps you glide through the water with a great deal less friction resistance allowing for faster times and reduced effort....Nice.
The new Cell Air is lighter, more flexible and offers more buoyancy than most wetsuit models and now has air bubbles. The air bubbles are placed in the front of the suit; this is the best suit for all athletes who like to get high buoyancy.
For those of you who like the technical stuff:

Body -5 mm
Neck-1 mm
Shoulder/arm-1.5 mm
Leg down-2 mm
Fabric -Erox air cell blue, back Isospan white.
35 cm long intermolecular panels on both underarms. (20% more adhesion with every stroke).
Hydrophobic coating (water-repellent) both inside and out so that the suit cannot soak up any water.
So how does it perform? I am not the best of swimmers so I look for all advantages I can find. I found the Cell Air a little heavy and stiff when I picked it up but was proven so wrong when I put the suit on. It has to be one of the easiest and most comfortable suits I have put on. I loved it...
For my swim test I went to Shelly beach for our usual Friday night aquathon. I swim from Shelly Beach to Fairy Bower and back (750mtrs) in 11:00 when swim fit and around 12:30 when not. I threw the Cell Air on and cruised to an 11:30 in rough conditions. Not bad!! I repeated the test a week later with similar results. I tried it again with a Manly to Shelly swim. It felt really nice on, no shoulder discomfort, great flexibility really comfortable and it did improve my swimming times.
Over the past 26 years I have swum in many different brands of wet suits in races for sprint to Ironman. I struggled to find a suit that I felt comfortable, fast and economic in. The Erox Cell Air has proven to be the best one right out of the box. I feel comfortable in the Cell Air which counts for so much...
Do yourself a favour this season and pull one on. Your swim times will drop and your partner will be able to spot you coming out of the water for a change.....perfect
